WHAT DO WE DO?
Real-life consumer insight backed by video. We interview people in their everyday lives to observe what they do and understand how they think.
ALL IS FILMED.
By a camera that is always on hand but never in the way, so that you too can meet your buyer. We edit the footage into simple insight based clips to help make listening to consumers an experience that informs + inspires your whole team.
METHOD SPECIFICS:
- One-on-one.
- Commercial ethnography. Interviews. Immersions. Shopper safaris.
- In the respondent’s own environment.
- We step into their World, listen and observe.
- All is filmed by a camera that is on hand, but never in the way.
- Film maximises analysis: through the process of editing interviews are viewed 3-4 times.
- Film allows the consumer to be virtually brought back to the boardroom for all to see.

I’M KIRSTY HOBBS, FOUNDER OF INSIGHTS AUSTRALIA.
My goal is to add more inspiration to your work-life than you ever thought possible by bringing you real-life consumer insight backed by video, that you and your team can immediately apply to improve business.
I began work as a strategic planner at Ogilvy Singapore, Saatchi & Saatchi New Zealand then grabbed a desk at George Patts in Sydney.
As a strategist I always gravitated to asking ‘Who are we talking to? What do we actually know about them? How can we be of service by applying that knowledge?’ Years followed at brand, media and ad agencies asking the same questions.
I became frustrated sitting inside shiny white skyscrapers with people assuming they knew what was going on ‘out there’.
I craved real-life insight – true understanding – to inform the strategies I was crafting.
Eventually, I booked a one-way ticket to live in South Africa to learn from the World’s leading consumer insight ethnographic team The Consumer Insight Agency. At that time they were running groundbreaking qualitative consumer research projects globally for the likes of Unilever, Diageo and Coca-Cola’s sponsorship of FIFA World Cup.
Everything clicked.
I have since brought back my skills to Australia. 12-years on and I have executed qualitative research and strategy projects for some of the World’s leading brands.
ON THE PERSONAL FRONT:
- I drove from Sydney to London, across Africa independently in a 4×4. The expedition took 585 days and my fiance and I built an online community of 7000+ who cheered us on.
- I’ve written for Africa Geographic and Australia’s premium 4×4 magazines.
- Love: Dogs. Salty water. Travel. It’s all stuff that makes me come alive.
- I believe in being a positive part of our global community: I’ve run a fundraiser for Watoto Wema orphanage in Kenya.
